| Details | Topic: Practical Approaches to Maintaining Injection Well Efficiency Speaker: John Bonsangue, Director of Recharge and Wetlands, OCWD John Bonsangue is a California Professional Geologist with the Orange County Water District (OCWD). Mr. Bonsangue has 20 years of groundwater industry experience. For the last ten years Mr. Bonsangue has managed the Talbert Seawater Intrusion Barrier project for OCWD and is currently the Director of Recharge and Wetlands Operations. Justin A. McKeever, Distribution and Injection Supervisor, OCWD Mr. McKeever is currently the Distribution and Injection Well Supervisor on OCWD’s Talbert Sea Water Intrusion Barrier project. Mr. McKeever has over 4 decades of groundwater experience ranging from well drilling, well construction, injection well operation and maintenance, and research related to injection well performance. Synopsis: The Orange County Water District operates an alignment of 102 injection wells to control seawater intrusion into the Orange County Groundwater Basin (Orange County, CA). Throughout the past four decades various blends of injection water have been used and a variety of well designs have evolved. Optimizing and maintain injection capacity has been challenging with many lessons learned. This discussion will focus on the practical aspects of injection wells as it relates to maximizing injection well efficiency. Operational strategies explored include: injection water quality, injection well operation and maintenance, and well design and construction concepts.
