Details Please join us for a technical tour of the construction operations at the Moulton Niguel Water District (MNWD) Plant 2A Upgrades and Administration Facility. This tour will allow attendees to observe the instillation of Vibro Piers that were designed to mitigate anticipated settlements from the proposed construction of three new buildings and placement of up to 14 feet of fill. Vibro Piers were chosen as a ground improvement method to allow for selection of a shallow foundation system and to avoid the need for deep foundations. The Vibro Piers are a soil reinforcement system where the aggregate piers replace a portion of the weaker native soils and work in conjunction with the native soils to support shallow foundations, reinforced concrete mat foundations, and/or reinforced floor slabs on grade. The improved area was chosen to decrease anticipated total and differential settlements of the proposed improvements within tolerable limits.   Attendees will observe installation of the Vibro Pier system that is constructed using a vibratory probe to compact the aggregate pier material and increase lateral stress in the surrounding soils. The aggregate pier material is placed and compacted in lifts. The aggregate pier material can be placed into a predrilled hole, or it can be fed through a pipe and delivered directly to the aggregate pier at the tip of the vibrator. There will be an onsite presentation about the background of the project, subsurface soil conditions and a discussion about Vibro Piers and the purpose for their recommendation for use at the site.   The event has limited space and we welcome all on a first come basis. The following are event requirements: Proper PPE is required for all site visitors (vest, safety glasses, and hardhat) and can be provided by Hayward Baker Inc, if needed.
