Details TOPIC - USACE Future Construction The ASCE Orange County Branch invite you to attend the August Luncheon discussing the upcoming projects for the USACE Los Angeles District, presented by David Van Dorpe, P.E., PMP, Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management for Los Angeles District at US Army Corps of Engineers. USACE is "Engineering Solutions to the Nation's Toughest Challenges". They are promoting the goals of: Supporting National Security, Transforming Civil Works, Reducing Disaster Risk, while Preparing for Tomorrow. The USACE Los Angeles District stretches from the Southern border of California to the Central Coast. It covers Southern Nevada and most of Arizona. These 226,000 Square Miles cover 33,000,000 People, 420 Miles of California Shoreline including the Ports of LA & Long Beach. District Programs cover Civil Works, Military, and Interagency (International Support). The Veterans Affairs program alone includes construction of Research and Medical facilities.   About The Speaker:  David M. Van Dorpe, P.E., PMP Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management for Los Angeles District at US Army Corps of Engineers David Van Dorpe is a registered civil engineer with eighteen years of experience in the planning, design, construction and management of water resource projects. In 2012, Mr. Van Dorpe was promoted to be the Deputy District Engineer and Chief of the Program & Project Management Division. His previous assignments include Civil Works Branch Chief, Project Manager, Structural Engineer and Project Engineer for the Los Angeles District of the US Army Corps of Engineers. The mission of the Corps' is to provide vital public engineering services in peace and war to strengthen our Nation’s security, energize the economy and reduce risk from disasters. Mr. Van Dorpe has received several awards for his services to the Corps of Engineers including the P2 Commitment Award and two Commander’s Awards for Civilian Service. In addition to his professional engineering license, Mr. Van Dorpe is also a certified Project Manager Professional with the Project Management Institute (PMI). He has worked on several Corps-wide initiatives including the “P2 Success” training video, the Alamo Dam Risk Assessment Demonstration Project, the Dam Safety Research and Development Field Review Group. He is a graduate of the South Pacific Region’s Leadership Development Program and has served as a Special Assistant to the Chief of Engineers in Washington D.C. Mr. Van Dorpe is a firm believer in developing future leaders and has worked in several recruitment and mentoring roles including that of College Bowl Coach for the Hispanic Engineers National Award Academy Conference (HENAAC). He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Chi Epsilon (civil engineering honor society), and national fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon. He earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1994.
