Mohawk Street Extension (North)

Award

Description

The Mohawk Street North Project consists of approximately 0.75 miles of new roadway from Rosedale Highway to Siena Lane. This connection provides new vehicular access on Mohawk Street from Rosedale Highway to Hageman Road, and overall connection south across the Kern River to Truxtun Avenue and California Avenue. The project includes the construction of a four lane roadway with shoulders, a bike lane and full width improvements to the intersection of Rosedale Highway. The intersection was built to accommodate the future widening of Rosedale Highway by the Thomas Roads Improvement Program (TRIP). At the Calloway canal, a 42 foot wide arched culvert was constructed to full arterial width for a future six lane facility north and south. In addition to the roadway improvements, the project installed a 16” water main extension which will provide for future development of this area as well as a redundant water system. The project included several agencies, utility and oil company participation. Several Utilities were required to be relocated, including numerous oil lines dating back over 60 years. The participating groups included County of Kern, Caltrans, TRIP, Pacific Gas & Electric, San Joaquin Facilities Management, Paramount Petroleum, and North Kern Water Storage District.
