Description
Ingrid Spielbauer is a Civil Engineering Associate at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). As part of the Eastern Sierra Environmental Group, she manages Eastern Sierra ground and surface water to sustainably support LA’s potable water supply. She graduated from UCLA in 2020 with a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a Minor in Environmental Systems and Society. In 2023, she completed her M.S. in Engineering at UCLA with a focus in Sustainable Water Engineering.
During her undergraduate studies, her interest in sustainability and the environment was a major driver for her extracurricular pursuits: she became involved in on-campus environmental engineering research as part of Jassby Lab, pursued a minor focused on environmental justice and policy, and co-authored a published paper about the impact of sustainability and nutrition education on student diets with Jay Lab. It also led her to become involved with ASCE through the Environmental Design project. During her senior year, she led the project as one of two Co-Project Managers.
After college, Ingrid stayed involved with the ASCE as the Los Angeles Younger Members Forum’s (LA YMF) Inclusion, Belonging, and Diversity (IBD) Chair. She also served as Community Service Chair for LADWP’s Water Employees’ Club. These positions gave her the opportunity to plan events, raise money, and collect material donations for underserved communities.
Since then, she has been involved with major community aid projects: she engages in direct action through Water Drop LA, an organization that distributes over 2,000 gallons of bottled water in Skid Row on Sundays. She also recently helped plan Plates4Plates, a fundraiser and powerlifting meet that raised $2,265 for the Los Angeles Food Bank. Ingrid’s passion for marrying both her professional and personal interests with community service continues to be a cornerstone for her activities.
