Kern River Canal Backup Weir

Award

Flood Control Project

Description

The Kern River Canal Backup Weir project consists of the demolition and removal of an existing weir and then reconstructing a new, larger weir with downstream rock stilling basins for channel protection and distribution of flow.

The new weir is much more hydraulically efficient to pass flood flows and better allows passage of silt due to the utilization of a combination of radial undershot gates and weir boards.

A new building was constructed to house the electrical components and SCADA controls for the radial gates.
