Riverside Park Restoration

Award

Parks & Recreation Project

Description

Riverside Park is a county-owned, riverfront community park spanning approximately five acres along the Kern River in Kernville. In March 2023, the park was severely damaged by floodwaters, which inundated the area and impacted numerous amenities. Park benches, picnic tables and barbecues, the basketball court, grass areas, the irrigation system and pumphouse, concrete footings, accessible walkways, exercise equipment, play areas, the kayak launch area, and other features sustained significant damage. Restoration efforts began in August 2024 and included a full reconstruction of the park. The newly rebuilt Riverside Park reopened to the public in April 2025.
