Description

Sarah Sakakihara receives this award for ASCE Student Member for her contributions to the Cal Poly ASCE Student Chapter.  She has served as the co-conference coordinator organizing the trip and leading a contingent of 80 students to the Pacific Southwest Regional Conference in San Diego during her sophomore year. This year, her junior year, she was the student chapter’s Executive Vice President, organizing and arranging all aspects of a Career Fair that brought more than 80 Civil & Environmental Engineering companies to Cal Poly making career connections between them and the students at Cal Poly.  She has done all this with outstanding communication, leadership, and professionalism.  She has participated in several engineering competition teams and is currently a junior captain on Cal Poly’s Concrete Canoe Team.  Outside of ASCE, Sarah was a member of Cal Poly’s Marching Band for more than 2 years and volunteered to help her high school marching band in the summers.  She served as a Week of Welcome orientation leader for incoming Cal Poly Marching Band members, which extends for 2 weeks each summer for marching band.  She has had two civil engineering related summer internships, plus a third this coming summer.
