Villa Park High School Science Center

Award

Sustainable Engineering Project

Description

The Villa Park High School Science Center project exceeded construction general permit stormwater requirements for public education projects by meeting all requirements of the local municipal stormwater program. The project sought to reduce continual downstream flooding concerns experienced both on and off the site at adjacent properties owned by the city of Villa Park. The project accomplished this through a decreased post construction impervious ratio though construction of significant bioretention planter areas both adjacent to the proposed building and in the parking lot to both treat stormwater, and attenuate post construction flow rates. The project further saw this as an opportunity to educate the student body through placement of sustainable education signage throughout the project.
